Women Arent As Cool With One-Night Stands As Men

Lets start with one thing..Just like every study ever conducted, just because this doesnt apply to YOU doesnt mean it doesnt apply.

My Boyfriend Is Turned Off By My Hairy Legs.

Im 25 and have been dating a man who is 34 for the last 1.5 years. There is a lot to like about him he's smart, kind, caring, and dependable. He is almost the elusive alpha male nerd.

Am I Being Too Materialistic By Giving Up on a Financially Unstable Man?

I decided to get back into the dating world and I met this guy online four weeks ago. So its all still very early and very new. But a big worry for me is that is has absolutely no stability or consistency in his life.

When Do I Draw The Line When He Parties With the Boys?

My boyfriend loves partying weekends and some weeknights with his friends. We are in our late 20s and I party a bit too but dont consider it extremely important.

How Do I Make My Boyfriend Want to Talk About Next Steps in Our Relationship?

How Do I Make My Boyfriend Want to Talk About Next Steps in Our Relationship

I am a 52-year-old twice-divorced woman who has been in a serious relationship with a great man for three years. He is kind, loyal, dedicated, hard-working, and treats me very well. We each have two teenage kids in high school and live in different school districts. Our divorces were tough on the kids and we have both done everything possible to keep them stable and happy. Neither one of us is willing to disrupt our kids and pull them out of their high schools and understand forcing for teenagers to live together under one roof would be a disaster. So for the past 3 years my boyfriend and I see each other every other weekend when our kids are with their other parent. We have created what I like to call a “weekend love bubble”. It’s just the two of us 2x a month and we get along wonderfully. No fighting or bickering because our time together is so special and limited. However, there’s also no talk of the future, marriage or anything past getting our kids through high school graduation. We talk on the phone every day to stay connected during our time apart; we spend holidays together with our families and occasionally get all the kids together for special events. Over Christmas vacation, we got to spend a glorious 5 uninterrupted days together in our love bubble and it was fabulous. I am deeply in love and understand our living situation cannot change for the next two years, but how do I break the cycle of this weekend love bubble and take this relationship to the next step? How do I get him to start talking about our future together with the unknown factor of four teenagers?

Sincerely,
Amy

Amy, this is a relationship of your own creation. It’s not something that happened to you against your will. It’s something you have chosen, again and again, for the past three years.

Now, to be fair, it sounds like he’s content with it. It sounds like you have been as well – otherwise, I’m presuming, you wouldn’t have accepted the notion of a 2X/month boyfriend for so long. But life is about tradeoffs and choices, my friend.

You and your boyfriend chose to keep separate lives, separate houses, separate school districts – all for the sake of your kids’ stability. I am not criticizing you; I am merely pointing out what you shared with me. Those were the terms of the deal.

You never “make” your boyfriend do anything. You ask him.

Now you want to change the terms of the deal. I’m with you. I don’t see a biweekly relationship as an ideal one, and I fully support you wanting to escalate things. However, you’re one of two people in the relationship, and your boyfriend has never made any noise about wanting to change. Which leads to the dreaded preamble, “How do I make my boyfriend…”

You never “make” your boyfriend do anything. You ask him.

“Sweetie, when the kids are out of the house, what would you like to see happen with us?”

See what he says.

If he says, “I like things exactly the way they are. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” you have some insight. If he says, “I’ve been hoping you’d say that. I want to sell my house and buy one in your town,” you have a different insight.

You created your “love bubble.” Only you can burst it.

The point is to not exert pressure on a given outcome, but merely to let him speak. Chances are, you will get neither answer. You will probably get “I haven’t really thought about it. Let’s cross that bridge in a few years when we both have empty nests.”

And you will have to learn to deal with being in a relationship that has little forward motion and no guarantees…because that is the relationship you agreed to three years ago.

You created your “love bubble.” Only you can burst it.

Do You See Yourself as Victim in Love? Snap Out of It!

Do You See Yourself as Victim in Love. Snap Out of It!

Arthur C. Brooks is a conservative. So right there, we’re on different pages. But I’m not a knee-jerk liberal. I’m an evidence-based guy who isn’t as wedded to personal dogma as I am to best practices. In other words, I only care what works, not who’s right.

Which is why I’m sharing with you Brooks’s seemingly unrelated article about victimhood on a dating and relationship blog.

So, who are the victims in dating?

Well, if you’re a woman, it’s women. If you’re a man, it’s men. Each side believes that the other side is wrong and that they are the true “victims” in the gender wars.

Quite objectively, both of them are wrong.

Men have valid grievances. Women have valid grievances. One side’s grievances don’t trump the others. Those who seek to minimize the suffering of the opposite sex are really doing themselves a disservice, because it means they really don’t understand how the world works. They think they are the center of the universe; they are seemingly unable to put themselves in the shoes of other people.

You can see how this compassion gap between the genders hurts all of us.

Says Brooks, “The culture feeds a mentality that crowds out a necessary give and take — the very concept of good-faith disagreement — turning every policy difference into a pitched battle between good (us) and evil (them)….Today, millions of Americans believe that their side is basically benevolent while the other side is evil and out to get them.”

Those who seek to minimize the suffering of the opposite sex are really doing themselves a disservice, because it means they really don’t understand how the world works.

He’s talking about politics. He may as well be talking about dating. As anyone who’s read this blog for a long time knows, there is a huge lack of understanding in the relationship world. Women who blame men for wanting sex without commitment. Men who blame women for not giving a chance to nice guys, short guys or men without money. Women who blame men for not communicating like other women. Men who blame women for having different emotional needs as men. All you have to do is read the comments section below and you’ll be astounded by how much anger and victim mentality we see from otherwise bright, normal people.

They shall remain nameless, but you know who they are. They are the men who complain that the world is rigged to favor women and spend all their time railing against injustice (“I had to pay for dates! She didn’t even call me back! American women are emasculating hags with no sexual market value over the age of 30!). They are the women who complain that everything is part of a greater patriarchy designed to oppress women. If you question it, you’re a part of it. So although 50% of my advice is to tell women to stop putting up with bullshit from men, the other 50% is to tell women how to act more effectively with men. It often means being nicer, more patient, more accepting, more understanding, more easygoing – putting yourself in his shoes the way you’d like him to put himself in your shoes. Basically, it’s good people advice that somehow gets twisted into a patriarchal attack on women, because evidently men aren’t entitled to expect better treatment from women as long as other men still treat women poorly.

In other words, it’s a race to the bottom. MRAs and MGTOWs say that they’re no longer going to court women or get married. Many women say that they are also opting out of love – because men as a gender can’t be trusted. This is victimhood culture.

Not surprisingly, these people who out themselves with their heightened rhetoric are the least happy people of all. According to a study in the Brooks piece, people who see themselves as victims were more likely to be selfish, entitled, and less helpful.

Similarly, according to Brooks, “Victimhood culture generally seeks to restrict expression in order to protect the sensibilities of its advocates. Victimhood claims the right to say who is and is not allowed to speak.” Which is why those victims will always stand out like a sore thumb in the comments section. They’re the ones who write 1000 word diatribes. They’re the ones who carpet bomb the opposite sex. They’re the ones who insult yours truly, all because I offered a logical opinion that personally indicted them.

Victimhood culture is a pox on all discourse and it needs to be fought against vigilantly.

The irony is that those people are unhappy with their choices – and yet they will defend their right to make ineffective choices. In other words, they’re not asking for advice. They’re looking for validation and get pissed when they don’t get it.

They complain about men. They complain about women. And they don’t understand how any man or woman worth anything would not want to date someone who has such animus towards the opposite sex. These victims claim to be empowered (Men Going Their Own Way! A Woman Needs a Man Like a Fish Needs a Bicycle!) but really, they are the opposite. They are powerless, railing against reality, painting a highly one-sided picture of what healthy relationships are all about. I don’t even get mad at them. I just feel bad for them. The women who respond to all advice to women with “But MEN–” The men who troll me on their blogs and Twitter accounts as if respectfully listening to women is tantamount to kowtowing to women.

Victimhood culture is a pox on all discourse and it needs to be fought against vigilantly. Which is why I continue to write these blog posts that somehow inflame people; I will not be shut down just because a few victims want to shoot the messenger.

“Fair-minded people can discriminate between expression that puts people at risk and that which merely rubs some the wrong way,” says Brooks.

A-fucking-men, my conservative brother.

Your thoughts, below, are always appreciated.

Thanks to You, EvanMarcKatz.com Had 9 Million Readers in 2015!

When I started blogging in 2007, it was based on a friend’s recommendation. “Everybody’s doing it. It’s good for SEO. It’s a way to connect with your fans.” To me, it just sounded like a pain in the ass. I was a professional writer, I had two books under my belt, I had a weekly newsletter where I already gave free advice, so why would I want the headache of creating MORE free content for no money? But, as is my disposition, I took a chance, and, as is my disposition, I stuck with it.

9 years later, I am humbled and blown away at what this site has become. My little blog, which I half-heartedly started when I first met my wife (original title: AdviceFromASingleDatingExpert), has turned into a massive community. Nearly 9 million people came to EvanMarcKatz.com in 2015. Most came from random Google searches in the middle of the night. “How to keep a guy interested after sleeping with him?” “Should I text him?” “How can you tell if your boyfriend is falling in love with you?”

But many of those random searches led to devoted readers: almost 800,000 people frequented this blog over 15 times last year, and over 60,000 came back over 200 times. Which just confirms what I’ve long suspected. You don’t always comment. You don’t always share on Facebook. But you are reading. At all hours of the night and from all corners of the Earth, you are definitely reading.

So I just want to say, from the bottom of my heart, how grateful I am. I began as a 34-year-old single writer, trying to navigate his way through the complicated LA dating scene. I didn’t know what I was doing, but that didn’t stop me. However, by hosting this blog, answering your questions, and participating in the vibrant comments section, I have become a better person. I’ve learned to understand different perspectives, challenge my own beliefs, inform my coaching practice, and, most importantly, choose an amazing wife. In short, I’ve grown up, thanks to you. I have a career, thanks to you. To some degree, I owe my life to you.

Which is why I would be remiss, after all this time, to keep these astounding numbers to myself. I wanted you to know that I appreciate your continued readership and that you are part of something much larger. Because of that, I vow to keep putting out regular provocative material (including a new podcast and YouTube channel in March) and to keep up my end of the bargain as long as you keep up yours.

With that in mind, I have one (okay, two) simple requests:

In the comments section beneath the infographic, please post the single most important thing you have gotten out of reading this blog. Then, when you’re done, please share this post on your Facebook wall or Twitter account. I’m proud of what we’ve built together and I hope we can continue to grow this worldwide community of smart people who believe in love.

Thank you so very much,

Love,

Evan

Is It Appropriate to Discuss Sexual Preferences Before We Have Sex?

Is It Appropriate to Discuss Sexual Preferences Before We Have Sex

I’ve had two dates with a man that I met online. We are in the process of getting to know each other. I don’t like to sleep with men within three dates, and he has been a perfect gentleman. So, our conversations thus far have not included sexual related topics/questions. But, I’m curious if we’re compatible on all levels, specifically the bedroom. This has been a problem for me in my past relationships. So, I want to know how long, if at all, can I ask a man about his sexual preferences in the bedroom? Everyone has their own comfort level. So if a man doesn’t like to do the same things in the bedroom that I like to do or wants to do more than what I’m comfortable with, then I don’t want us to waste any more time on each other. Please advise.

Thank you,
Nora

I usually don’t take questions that I can answer in one word, but here goes:

No.

You should not attempt to negotiate sexual preferences while you’re eating your Caesar salad. It’s weird, it’s premature, it’s unnecessary, it’s unnatural.

That doesn’t mean I’m suggesting that sex is unimportant, only that there is an accepted, organic way to navigate sex, and it usually doesn’t involve a sober conversation about your respective kinks during Date 2.

To me, this is no different than ANY deep relationship discussion that people choose to have prematurely.

Stop trying to figure out if he’s sexually compatible with you through words, and start investigating it through actions.

“How do you feel about having Jewish kids?” “What is your take on feminism?” “I have erectile dysfunction but I’m in treatment.” “I have genital herpes.” “My ex-husband was a physical abuser.” “I just got out of jail in March.” “Do you have a 401k set up?” “Are you open to threesomes?”

All are relevant in deciding whether you are long-term compatible; none are things that need to be discussed with a virtual stranger at a restaurant. You have a lot more leverage over a man when he’s been seeing you for six weeks, he’s taken his profile down and called himself your boyfriend, than when you’ve known each other for seven hours over two weeks.

The way I put it in Why He Disappeared is this: it’s like you want to read the last page of the book without reading the actual book. So stop trying to figure out if he’s sexually compatible with you through words, and start investigating it through actions.

If you find yourself in a relationship with a man who doesn’t satisfy you sexually, then you have every right to break up with him. But you may not get yourself into a relationship if you try to have these kinds of “compatibility” conversations too early on.

I recall the woman who asked me if I was interested in choking her and another woman who asked for my “number.” Neither of them got another date.

Scammers Will Post Your Private Sexts If You Don’t Pay Up

Scammers Will Post Your Private Sexts If You Don't Pay Up

10 years ago, I had a private client in Arkansas. We’ll call him Jon. He was a meaty, blond, tractor-driving farmer who really wanted a wife. He was in his early 30’s but he was the last among his friends to settle down. I wrote his profile. Put him up on Farmers Only. Taught him to write witty emails. But it was a struggle. Jon’s strengths were outdoors, not sitting at his keyboard, trying to flirt with strange women on the Internet.

Then, suddenly, Jon was extremely excited. He had gotten an email from a very attractive woman from Philadelphia. She didn’t say much. Her grammar was poor. But she told Jon what he longed to hear – that she was extremely interested in meeting him quickly. To prove this, she offered her Yahoo address right away.

Never one to be shy about being the bearer of bad news, I told Jon that this was very likely a scammer. She would try to build a relationship with him via email, find excuses why they couldn’t talk on the phone, and then ask him for money.

He wanted to know how I could prove it. Why was I so cynical? Why couldn’t I just believe that a woman from Philadelphia with a stock photography model shot would write to a farmer in Arkansas? Like any good parent or coach, I made my point and let Jon do his thing. Three weeks – and a lot of time and emotion later – he admitted it was a scam.

Scammers prey on the most vulnerable online daters – people who are not getting any attention.

Scammers prey on the most vulnerable online daters – people who are not getting any attention. By giving them attention and raising their hopes up, they gain trust and bilk over $200 million each year from lonely, unwitting singles. According to a recent New York Times piece, “The drive to find a preferred mate is extremely powerful,” said Lucy Brown, a clinical professor of neurology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, who studies the brain activity of people in love. “It’s a reflexive urge, like hunger and thirst,” which can cloud judgment and make people less likely to question the motives of an online match.”

Not surprisingly, the former Nigerian scam has been embraced stateside, which makes it all the harder to catch. When someone seems real and acts real, there’s little reason not to believe. The problem is that the scams have gotten even more vicious. In the past, you could just ignore someone’s request for money. Now, they have you exchanging naked photos and then extorting you by threatening to release those photos.

All the more reason to never engage in sexting with a stranger or send money to a stranger. I wouldn’t think I would need to say that out loud, but evidently, there’s a lot of people who didn’t get the memo.

Your thoughts, below, are appreciated.

I’m a Democrat Who Doesn’t Want to Date a Republican

I’m a Democrat Who Doesn’t Want to Date a Republican

It’s an election year. In NH it’s started in earnest but it’s coming to the rest of the country. You say that men don’t have to have the exact same interests and values as I do, but to me politics and religion matter. It sounds from your posts they should not matter that much. But to me they inform how you relate to the world and your most important values. While I agree it doesn’t matter as much with friends I have a harder time respecting people who believe in a party that is currently racist, homophobic, and anti-women. And I have a hard time believing in a church that has yet to stop condemning my son because he was born gay. If I don’t respect my partner then how can a relationship flourish?

I volunteer for the Democratic party and my oldest son is gay. How could I possibly date a Republican when our most important values clash? I can’t overlook that in this political climate given the opposition’s current rhetoric. These are not mild differences. Wouldn’t we end up just fighting? I don’t expect their families to believe as I do, but they can’t support Donald Trump or Ted Cruz. And how would they feel when I canvas on Saturdays or host the Clinton campaign holiday party at my house?

Also when you have a gay son and someone continues to go to the Catholic Church or is an evangelical Christian whose faith equates homosexuality with pedophilia, isn’t that a deal breaker? I was raised as a Roman Catholic but I won’t set foot in a Roman Catholic Church until they stop that nonsense. Pope Francis is trying but it’s like he’s Obama with a Republican congress. And 3 presidential contenders stood on a stage with an evangelical minister who advocates rounding up all the gays and killing them.

I don’t think I’m being harsh. I understand it’s not easy to give up, but my sons went to see Spotlight and stayed up all night discussing it. And they are my life. A man who thinks sexuality is a choice or that he would feel uncomfortable around my son is not for me and I don’t see a way around this. My female friends who continue to attend churches who don’t hold the same values, they do baffle me. It’s like staying in a bad relationship where you are verbally and emotionally abused isn’t it?

I’m not talking tennis vs. golf or action movies vs. indie flicks, but these are huge. And it’s going to get worse this year. So please discuss.

Thank you!
Kathleen

I may be a liberal, but I’m moderate in temperament. Which is to say that I’m big on listening and trying to understand someone else’s point of view. I’m not dogmatic; I try to let data and science inform my opinions. My metrics are about “effective and ineffective,” not “right and wrong.” And I feel very strongly – as do most liberals – that the world is grey and not black and white. Anyone who approaches a situation without nuance clearly hasn’t given it much thought.

So here’s your nuance, Kathleen:

Not all Republicans are the same.

I know that’s shocking, but it’s true. Is Trump a rich bully with a fourth grade vocabulary and no experience in Washington, spouting borderline fascist tirades at anyone who crosses him without any tangible plans on how he will make Iran, China, Mexico, Russia and ISIS heel, apart from talking tough? Of course.

Anyone who approaches a situation without nuance clearly hasn’t given it much thought.

Is Ted Cruz the caricature of a compassionless conservative, a mean-spirited divisive man who has alienated everyone on both the right and the left in his rise to prominence, a truly scary, retrograde human being who wants the United States to be a Christian theocracy? Hell, yeah.

And most of my Republican friends are scared shitless of them.

They are bright, socially liberal, moderate-tempered people who vote Republican because they offer lower taxes, believe in smaller government, and blindly support Israel. These are good people who are highly educated, happily married “job creators” here in the suburbs of Los Angeles, and while they’re uncomfortable with the official party platform, they vote with their wallets. Ask them about Obamacare and they’ll have very valid critiques, since they employ 50-100 people each. I can understand and respect their stances, and I hope you can, too.

So when you write, “I don’t think I’m being harsh,” that would appear to be your blind spot. You don’t consider the idea that politics (like sexuality) isn’t just binary, but a broad spectrum.

Republican moderates may not make much noise during the primary season, but they exist and are worth getting to know, dating and even marrying.

My wife grew up in a right-wing Catholic military family with an overtly racist and sexist patriarch. But my wife is moderate to apolitical. She voted for Perot back in ’92. She believes in the same exact values that you and I espouse. She thinks her family is on the wrong side of history when it comes to gay rights. But mostly she tolerates me for being an opinionated liberal. Hell, she came to a Bill Maher taping with me last year; whether or not she shares all of my beliefs is essentially meaningless. She doesn’t feel that strongly about her positions and doesn’t like to argue, and that allows us to work. A more political partner wouldn’t be a good fit for me – which is exactly what you’re saying.

Listen, Kathleen, you can restrict yourself to Democrats and still have half the population available to you. But I’m telling you that the other half of the population is not monolithic.

Republican moderates may not make much noise during the primary season, but they exist and are worth getting to know, dating and even marrying. Believe me; I should know.

P.S. If any Republicans take it personally that some Democrats have second thoughts about dating you, please check out this study, which points out that, in fact, Republicans are even more judgmental of Democrats.

To Be (Alone) or Not to Be (Alone)? That Is the Question.

To Be (Alone) or Not to Be (Alone). That Is the Question

24 hours left before the Valentine’s Day Believe in Love sale is over. Act now, and get my ebook, workbook, audio and 3 bonuses that will change your life forever!

Type in promo code VDAY2016 to get 50% off at check out.

For all I know, you have a Valentine’s Day date with your boyfriend lined up later tonight. But if you don’t, I implore you to keep reading.

Your future self will thank you. :)

Listen, I’ve been cranking out newsletters on a regular basis – to educate, to inspire, to give you a clear path to the promised land that we call love.

Yet, for all of the free information I’ve offered, there’s still a few of you who think that it’s too steep to invest in the most important aspect of life: love.

Quick story: My wife and I were looking at our budget recently – trying to pay attention to what we could cut. And while we’re not lavish, we noticed we spend a lot more on “experiences” than on “things.”

We’ll get tickets to a local food festival, an outdoor concert at the Hollywood Bowl, a trip to go to a wedding… all of which cost between $50 and $1000… all of which provide for nice memories, but are then gone.

I’ll spend $100 on dinner in a heartbeat and agonize about spending $100 on a dress shirt that lasts for years.

I’ll spend $2000 on a weekend in New York, but wouldn’t spend $2000 on a piece of art or a new set of appliances for the kitchen.

I find this fascinating. And I’m probably not the only one who spends irrationally.

So here’s the deal:

Love is not a one-time purchase like a pair of shoes.

Love is an experience that can last a lifetime.

When you’re weighing the costs of Believe in Love, just know this:

When you choose your man wisely, love lasts forever.

When you choose your man wisely, love is the greatest return on investment.

When you choose your man wisely, love truly does mean “‘til death do us part.”

I know it’s hard to see that when you’ve been hurt, when you’ve been blindsided, when you’ve devoted your life to various men, only to come up empty-handed.

All this means is that you’ve chosen the wrong men in your past, not that there are no good men or that you are doomed to be alone forever.

As I said in Tuesday’s post, you can live your life in four ways:

Unhappily single
Unhappily coupled
Happily single
Happily coupled

Which way sounds best to you? And what are you doing to get started now?

My Believe in Love Valentine’s Day sale only lasts until 11:59pm tonight.

Hundreds of women have already taken advantage of the 50% off savings and received a blueprint to overcome negativity, crush your fears and date with confidence.

If you’ve waited this long because you’ve been too busy at work, I understand. But now it’s Sunday. It’s time to breathe. Even God rested, you know? :)

If you’ve waited this long because you’re a maximizer who wants to get the best deal, let me tell you: sometimes you gotta pull the trigger. There’s no better price coming along, and doing nothing just leaves you in the same place.

If you’ve waited this long because you’re skeptical – despite the emails, testimonials, and no-risk money-back guarantee – I get it. But I would ask if you want to cap your happiness at “happily single” for the rest of your life when you know you can be happily coupled.

If you’ve waited this long because you don’t want to challenge your thinking – you prefer to hate online dating, believe the worst in men, and seal yourself off from the greatest happiness on the planet – that’s your prerogative. But I’ve never met one person who was happier alone than she was when she was in love.

At the very least, I hope you took value out of the stuff I’ve shared with you this last week. The concept of being happily coupled instead of happily single. The idea that, like Elaine, you can approach dating with more joy and confidence. The promise that you can attract higher quality men by being proactive and optimistic.

Take advantage of this incredible opportunity to feel better about yourself, dating, and, yes, the opposite sex – all for 50% off the regular price.

Don’t forget to put in promo code VDAY2016 at checkout to get your discount!

I’m excited for you and know that by starting to believe in love once again, you’re bound to find it sooner rather than later.

Warmest wishes and much love,

Your friend,
