Women Arent As Cool With One-Night Stands As Men

Lets start with one thing..Just like every study ever conducted, just because this doesnt apply to YOU doesnt mean it doesnt apply.

My Boyfriend Is Turned Off By My Hairy Legs.

Im 25 and have been dating a man who is 34 for the last 1.5 years. There is a lot to like about him he's smart, kind, caring, and dependable. He is almost the elusive alpha male nerd.

Am I Being Too Materialistic By Giving Up on a Financially Unstable Man?

I decided to get back into the dating world and I met this guy online four weeks ago. So its all still very early and very new. But a big worry for me is that is has absolutely no stability or consistency in his life.

When Do I Draw The Line When He Parties With the Boys?

My boyfriend loves partying weekends and some weeknights with his friends. We are in our late 20s and I party a bit too but dont consider it extremely important.

Is My Guy Shit Testing Me?

Is My Guy Shit Testing Me

I am currently seeing a guy, for just over a month now (we just recently slept together), and he’s been very disclosing about what he’s looking for. He’s also very up front with his past relationships, what he won’t tolerate in relationships, and so on and so forth. Charles is a Type A guy, successful businessman who demands a lot of things from the people around him. He does not take any crap from people, and is bluntly truthful. We have been very honest throughout our courtship, any questions he’s got, I’ll answer. I’m not one to pry normally, and perhaps that is to my detriment a little bit. I have been called confusing, and been told by this man that he does not know quite where he stands with me. We know a decent amount about our past relationships, my past engagements (yes, “s”, as in 2), and our recent dating history. He is very affectionate, even in front of his roommates/friends, introduces me to new people if we run into them, takes me on dates, usually calls every night, but is insanely busy overall.

In all of his honesty, Charles seems to be almost testing me, and seeing what my reaction will be to certain things. Here are a few examples: sharing about his exes (I realize there’s a reason they are exes, that’s not my concern), talking about past sexual experiences (again, not a jealousy issue), letting me know that he doesn’t find it “appropriate” to continue speaking with someone you previously dated, when he’s involved with someone, and that he will not tolerate anyone who does that. He also will lets me know if someone from his past pops up, FB messages him, texts him, what they want, etc., makes jokes about our future “60 years down the road” (exact quote), and asks me if anyone from my past has contacted me recently.

I have no issue being honest, but I wonder if I’m getting set up! There are others, and of course more details that I could share, but I’m beginning to think him sharing and letting me know that he is expecting these things is his way of testing me. Is this something that guys do? Is Charles testing me with these things?

Thanks, Donna

This is probably my confirmation bias as a male dating coach who listens to women all day long, or as a man who dated 300+ women, but this sounds a lot like the things that women do to test men. And, like you, I don’t like it one bit.

It’s in the asking of the question that the person issuing these shit tests ultimately fails.

No one wants to get hurt.
No one wants to waste his/her time.
No one wants to invest years of falling in love, only to find out that you’re ultimately incompatible.

So what do people do? Little shit tests like this to try to gather information in advance.

In addition to what you wrote above, I’ve heard all sorts of similar tests:

1. So…where do you see yourself in five years? (To ensure he wants marriage and kids.)
2. So…how many people have you slept with? (To ensure he’s not an immoral slut.)
3. So…what kind of car do you drive? (To ensure he’s successful and stylish.)
4. So…have you ever cheated on anyone before? (To ensure he’s not that kind of guy.)
5. So…are you in touch with any of your exes? (To ensure he’s emotionally available.)

Understand, the ideas behind these questions are actually quite reasonable. It’s in the asking of the question that the person issuing these shit tests ultimately fails.

His answer will tell you far more than I can.

Because if you’re asking these questions, you’re only indicating that you’re afraid, insecure, and mistrustful that you can’t gather information organically over time. Which is why you resort to “interviewing” your date to find out if he/she gives the “right” answers to your questions.

The problem is that it’s awkward. It makes a partner feel like a piece of meat. He/she knows she’s being tested, and probably doesn’t enjoy it.

So I can’t speak to how other people handle things, but as a direct communicator, I’d come out and say it. “Hey, I’m getting the sense that you’re “testing” me on issues of communication and fidelity. Do you want to tell me about issues you’ve had in the past with women? Because these questions feel a bit uncomfortable and inorganic to me.” And then let him speak.

His answer will tell you far more than I can.

(Video) How Loving Men Can Make Men Love You In Return

How Loving Men Can Make Men Love You In Return

This is technically a video for men, but it’s SO relevant for my women readers.

It’s an interview with my friend, Allana Pratt. I watched every second of this. You should too. When you’re done, I want you to consider how much men and women are truly alike – and how our insecurities are the SAME.

Allana and I had lunch last month and she is one of the only women coaches I know that have classic masculine energy (intelligence and drive), but a remarkable feminine energy that brings out the best in men.

Consider how much men and women are truly alike – and how our insecurities are the SAME.

To be fair, Allana speaks with emotion more than logic. She will tell you to breathe from your vagina and things like that. :) But I’ll tell you this:

1. She is the hands-down sexiest woman I know. (and yes, my wife is aware of Allana – we’ve had her over in the pool with her son). When I’m with her, I want to do things for her. That’s feminine power at its finest.

2. She listens to men’s complaints about women just as I listen to women’s complaints about men. And literally every thing that you feel about men, men feel about you as well. Confused, powerless, not enough, constantly under attack, etc. All you have to do is read the comment section to know this. Allana’s energy as a coach makes these men feel good about themselves – like a magician for men. That’s why I think she’s special. I may know my stuff inside out like a lawyer, but I do not specialize in making women feel like queens, the way Allana makes men feel like kings.

Finally, at the end of the video, she says things that I wish I thought of on how to be a genuinely confident and feminine powerhouse. If you don’t like men, don’t trust men, don’t believe in men, see the worst in men, it’s hard to do well with men.

Allana TRULY loves men. And that’s why she’s worth your time and attention. I highly encourage you to take a half hour to watch and absorb.

When you’re done, come back here and please, share your thoughts. Thanks, as always, for trusting my judgment and taking a chance on some new information.

(Quiz) 20 Signs You’ve Wasted Time on the Wrong Men and Don’t Know How to Choose the Right One.

20 Signs You’ve Wasted Time on the Wrong Men

You’ve heard of the definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

I have no doubt that men and dating have driven you mad before.

“Why does he look at my profile but never write to me?”

“Why does he hook up with me but not want to be my boyfriend?”

“Why does he tell me he loves me but treats me so poorly?”

These mixed messages are the hardest thing to take – and it’s hard to find any measure of objectivity when the subject is so close to home.

Hell, it’s even relationship clichĂ©: “Don’t try to fix her. Just listen to her.”

But I have to admit something that’s hard for me to say out loud:

I sometimes feel like I’m going crazy, too.

As a dating coach since 2003, I know exactly what to expect when I post something on my blog, or share a quote on Facebook – and yet I’m always surprised when I rub people the wrong way.

The very women I’m trying to help – the very women I’ve devoted my life to – often have a negative reaction to my advice. And it’s always the same exact story.

I’ll post something really positive about finding a quality, trustworthy man who makes a consistent effort to make you feel safe, heard and understood…

Within seconds, I receive comments like:

“Men are pigs!”
“You can’t trust guys at all!”
“There’s no such thing as unconditional love!”

As a trustworthy guy, a happily married man, and a dating coach who has helped thousands of women find love, I tend to take such false statements personally. 

But I shouldn’t.

I should know that these women are in pain, that they don’t mean what they say, that they’re just venting and looking for support.

Hell, it’s even relationship clichĂ©: “Don’t try to fix her. Just listen to her.”

But do I listen? No.

I’m a guy. I try to fix.

I point out rationally that their statements are untrue. That there are plenty of trustworthy men. That there are millions of happy couples. That it’s one thing to feel hurt; it’s quite another to believe that one entire gender is so bad that no couples in the world are actually happy.

Technically, I’m “right.” But it doesn’t matter.

The second I contradict the narrative that men are scumbags, I have revealed myself to be part of the problem: just another patronizing guy who doesn’t understand women.

Talk about the definition of insanity!

So from one flawed human being to another: I am always open to learning what I can do better to get different results, and I hope you are, too.

I have just finished the final week in my inaugural Love U course, and it has been an amazing six-month journey. I learn so much from my clients each day and I continue to pour that knowledge back into my coaching for your benefit.

That’s why I strongly encourage you to take my new quiz: “20 Signs You’ve Wasted Time on the Wrong Men and Don’t Know How to Choose the Right One.”

After listening closely to the experiences of 250 women, I have discovered twenty telltale signs that indicate unhealthy relationship choices.

When you’re done with my quiz, you will get an assessment as to whether you are Confident, Mildly Insecure, Insecure or Very Insecure.

Whatever the answer, just know that I’m not judging you whatsoever.

I can assure you: that change doesn’t involve giving up on men and love forever.

As a dating coach, my job is to hold up a mirror so you can see for yourself what’s working and what’s not.

Once you see evidence that men have repeatedly mistreated you, you’ll have all the impetus you need to make a big change in your life.

I can assure you: that change doesn’t involve giving up on men and love forever.

Rather, it means learning how to conduct yourself with confidence to repel the wrong men and attract the right ones.

Click here to take my quiz and get your free assessment.

I’ll let you know the results for my entire mailing list in an upcoming newsletter.

In the meantime, if you’re American, have a very happy Thanksgiving. If you’re outside the states, have a very happy weekend.

And don’t forget to take a moment to be thankful for the many blessings in your life, instead of focusing on the things you’re lacking.

By this time next year, you’ll have one more thing to be thankful for.

Just you watch…

Warmest wishes and much love,

Your friend,

Evan

My Boyfriend Wants Me to Have Surgeries So I’ll Look Like a Porn Star

My Boyfriend Wants Me to Have Surgeries So I’ll Look Like a Porn Star

I have been reading and following your advice religiously for a year and a half. You have truly been a godsend and I thank you profusely. You have changed my life! My question is this: I have been in a year and a half relationship with a great guy. Sweet, caring, successful man who’s wonderful with my children. The list goes on. Two things have come to the surface. He likes to watch porn and that has been hard for me because my ex-husband was an extreme porn addict!! But I’m trying to understand his needs and not judge based on the past. But now he is asking me to have my breasts enlarged to an excessive size and labiaplasty. I already have size D implants and I had my children by C-section so everything is intact below. I’m 5’9″, 127 pounds and very fit. I work out 5 days a week. I’m 46, blonde and believe it or not I am carded often. I love him just as he is! Very handsome, but he doesn’t need to look like a porn star to make me happy. I feel he is trying to make me look like these women and it’s starting to hurt my self-esteem – which is pretty high in a healthy way. I am a realist. I look really good and am so blessed with the genes I have, but I understand looks can’t last…no matter how much plastic surgery I have. Your thoughts??? My head and heart all mixed up and hurting. Thank you.

Lisa

After my penis reduction (I took 4” off because of the discomfort I caused other partners), I swore I wouldn’t talk about plastic surgery on this blog.

Too personal. Too sensitive. Too icky.

But I couldn’t resist answering your question, because it’s hard to believe it’s even a question.

You describe yourself as very attractive. I’m in no position to argue.

You describe your boyfriend as a great guy. I’m in no position to argue.

This is a completely unacceptable request on his part – a request that should be met by indignation, not confusion.

You describe the type of surgery your boyfriend wants you to have to remain physically appealing to him. I am now in a position to argue.

I do believe that attraction is important.

I don’t believe that porn is the root of all evil.

I do believe that compromise is necessary for any relationship.

At the same time, your boyfriend’s request – asking you to compromise your integrity, looks and health so that he can feel more attracted to you, the way he’s attracted to porn stars – is so objectively wrong and distasteful, I am surprised you saw fit to run it by me first. The only letter I’ve ever received that is comparable is this one about a woman who dated a personal trainer who told her to keep her shirt on during sex.

Find another guy who loves you for who you are – inside and out – and you can later look back on this creepy chapter of your life with a laugh.

And my answer to you is the same as my answer to her:

This is a completely unacceptable request on his part – a request that should be met by indignation, not confusion.

You may have loved your boyfriend for the past year and a half, but his tastes and proclivities do not make this third party observer feel safe that he’s a good husband candidate.

Find another guy who loves you for who you are – inside and out – and you can later look back on this creepy chapter of your life with a laugh.

Sort of like my penis reduction. Is that even a thing?

(Hmm…Evidently, it is.)

Why Do Ambitious Women Only Want Ambitious Men?

Here’s the latest video from the series I created with Three Day Rule. It’s called “Why Do Ambitious Women Only Want Ambitious Men?”

In it, Kate and I discuss how having extremely high standards can also hinder your ability to find a suitable match. While neither of us recommends “lowering your standards,” we both emphasize that complementary personality types often make the best partners.

Please watch and share the video, then share your thoughts below.

Adversity Breeds Compassion…And Contempt

Adversity Breeds Compassion...And Contempt

Fascinating article from the New York Times. It’s not about dating, per se, but it’s about how people act, which is easily applicable to relationships.

According to David DeSteno, writing in “Emotion”:

“Our intuition was that surviving hardships in life would lead people to become more generous, kind and supportive. After all, if you’ve lived through dire straits, you’re all too familiar with the pain and challenges involved. You can more readily adopt the perspective of someone in distress — you can feel his pain — and thus are more likely to lend a hand.”

That makes sense to me. I had anxiety and depression issues in my 20’s. Now that I’m on the other side of it, I’m extremely sensitive to mental illness and the stigmas around it. I wouldn’t wish anxiety and depression on my worst enemy. And, sure enough, that’s what the studies showed.

“Those who had faced increasingly severe adversities in life — loss of a loved one at an early age, threats of violence or the consequences of a natural disaster — were more likely to empathize with others in distress, and, as a result, feel more compassion for them. And of utmost importance, the more compassion they felt, the more money they donated (in the first study) or the more time they devoted to helping the other complete his work (in the second).”

But if that’s all that the study showed, I wouldn’t be sharing it with you today. What makes the above finding even more interesting is this contradictory information:

I wouldn’t wish anxiety and depression on my worst enemy.

“In an article recently published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, the Kellogg School of Management professor Loran Nordgren and colleagues found that the human mind has a bit of a perverse glitch when it comes to remembering its own past hardships: It regularly makes them appear to be less distressing than they actually were.

As a result of this glitch, reflecting on your own past experience with a specific misfortune will very likely cause you to underappreciate just how trying that exact challenge can be for someone else (or was, in fact, for you at the time). You overcame it, you think; so should he. The result? You lack compassion.”

Strangely, this makes sense, too. You see a lot of good hearted people telling poor people and minorities that they pulled themselves up by their bootstraps, and so should they. Never mind that the circumstances may be completely different for underprivileged Hispanics in East LA; the presumption is that if my Russian ancestors who came thru Ellis Island persevered and assimilated, so should Mexicans.

DeSteno summarizes: “Living through hardship doesn’t either warm hearts or harden them; it does both. Having known suffering in life usually heightens the compassion we feel for others, except when the suffering involves specific painful events that we know all too well. Here, familiarity really does breed contempt.”

Your thoughts, below, are greatly appreciated.
